Two months ago I photographed Alexa and Nick’s uniquely vintage wedding at the Highlands in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. Alexa and Nick chose their venue because they were immediately attracted to its historic charm – the mansion was built in 1796 and had so many fun spots to shoot in! Not only was the setting ideal, but the weather was perfect, too. It was a late September day that felt more like Summer than early Fall, and everyone enjoyed the abundance of sunshine and warmth as they celebrated.
We began the day with bridal prep upstairs in one of the Highland’s many rooms. I loved hanging Alexa’s gorgeous lace dress in one of the tall doorways for a dramatic dress photo. Alexa and her bridesmaids were all really close and it was obvious from the moment I met everyone – the room was overflowing with love and joy.
Alexa was such an easy and fun bride! I had so much fun photographing her and her bridesmaids all over the grounds. I especially loved shooting underneath the tall weeping willow tree out back.
Alexa and Nick opted to not see each other prior to the ceremony and saved that moment for when she walked down the aisle. Their ceremony was very sweet, full of laughter and tears, and framed by a large wall of ivy that made it feel intimate and cozy.
After the ceremony, I was so excited to steal Alexa and Nick away for a few sweet photos of just the two of them. I was fortunate enough to take their engagement photos back in February, so I knew the images would be stunning! Alexa and Nick were so happy and peaceful together and it was obvious that they were madly in love!
Alexa and Nick put so much work and effort into making their wedding their own. All their details were carefully picked out and every sign strategically placed on the grounds fit the theme and look of their celebration. Instead of a wedding cake, they served donuts and Alexa surprised Nick with a groom’s cake shaped like an old school Mac (scroll to see a photo – it was one of my favorite groom’s cakes to date!). Cakes were created by the talented Save Your Fork!
Once the ceremony was complete, the portraits taken, and the donuts served, it was time for the reception. The mansion’s sun room was transformed into a dance floor, complete with twinkling lights, and the only time the celebration stopped was for a few short and sweet speeches. Then it was right back to dancing!
My favorite moment of the night, however, was Alexa and Nick’s exit at the end of the night. The guests lit a path of sparklers to Alexa and Nick’s surprise getaway vehicle – a vintage Rolls Royce! It was a perfect and classic way to end the night.
Congratulations to Alexa and Nick! Thank you so much for allowing me to capture your day.
