On August 22nd, I photographed Jay and Julia’s uniquely colorful wedding at Pratt Gardens in Pilesgrove, New Jersey. I first met Jay and Julia at their snowy engagement shoot earlier this year, so I already knew this wedding was going to be memorable!
When i arrived, the girls were relaxing while chowing down on some pizza. In fact, Julia was so calm, she let me hang her gorgeous dress outside – a dress she just so happened to have designed and created herself!
I loved photographing Julia in her dress with her gorgeous flower crown. All the bouquets were made by one of her bridesmaids and her hair and makeup was done by another one of bridesmaids. I adored these personal touches, which turned out to be the first of many I would see throughout the day.
While I photographed the gorgeous girls my second shooter, Melissa, took care of the guys. These guys were also enjoying some delicious pizza when she arrived and shared shots of Jameson during prep.
Once we met up at Pratt Gardens, it was time for their emotional first look. Right before they saw each other, Jay read a sweet note from Julia which had everyone in tears.
Photographing Jay and Julia together was so easy. Their happiness was contagious and the photos Melissa and I captured were gorgeous. I loved everything about these two.
The gift from Jay and Julia to their bridal party was a pair of Ray Bans, and we had so much utilizing these bad ass sunglasses throughout our portraits. They made this group look too cool for school – not that they needed any help in that department! 🙂
The ceremony was highly emotional and incredibly sweet. Jay and Julia wrote their own vows and there wasn’t a dry eye in the audience. Even I had tears while photographing! During the ceremony, Jay and Julia placed a lock on the fence and turned the key. This fence was also used as their wedding “guest book”, where guests were also invited to sign a lock and then locked it to the fence.
After the ceremony, we took a few more photos of Jay and Julia together. They were on such an emotional high after finally being married. This field was the perfect backdrop for a few more photos.
The reception was just as unique as the couple. They chose to do everything outside, under blue sky and sunshine. The strung lights were such a dramatic backdrop to our photos!
One thing I loved about this reception was the food trucks! This was the first wedding catered by a food truck that I’ve been to, and I hope it’s not the last – such a great idea!
This was truly one of the most unique weddings I have ever photographed and I loved every minute of it. Congratulations to Jay and Julia!! <3 <3
