A few weeks ago, I headed to upstate New York to photograph Kaitie and Steve’s Roxbury barn wedding. I met Kaitie back in November when I photographed Nicole and Dan’s wedding. She was a bridesmaid, and we quickly realized we’d graduated together from William Floyd High School on Long Island. After we reconnected, she booked me to photograph her wedding at the Roxbury Barn. Needless to say, I was thrilled! After you see these photos, you’ll understand why.
Photographing Kaitie’s wedding was easy – she was one of my sweetest and most laid back brides to date. Plus her wedding dress was gorgeous, full of intricate lace detail, with a hint of blue underneath. Once she was ready, we headed outside for a first look with her father, and then a first look with Steve. Their formal portrait session was a great experience – they were so happy and in love that I hardly had to direct them at all. Their smiles were 100% sincere!
Kaitie and Steve were married in the nearby woods, and the forest provided the perfect backdrop of stunning natural beauty. The ceremony was full of personal touches that made it feel truly unique, including a “unity shot” of Jack Daniels, and a butterfly release that coincided with their first kiss as husband and wife. Their dogs are also very important to them, and played a special role in the ceremony.
Once Kaitie and Steve were married, it was time to party in the barn! Just like their ceremony, the reception decor was full of personality. Empty bottles doubled as vases for the centerpieces, and they gifted Southern Tier beer as their favors. There were also plenty of “sweet” details, like the candy bars that doubled as escort cards, and the rustic chic wedding cake that looked like it was carved from wood.
As a photographer, shooting in a barn was an amazing opportunity. Between the beautiful lights strung throughout the venue and the help of my amazing second shooter, Leah, we were able to get so many fun shots during the dance party. There was a live band, and the music and dancing went on for hours, ending with the biggest bonfire I’ve ever seen!
Congratulations to Kaitie and Steve and thank you for allowing me to photograph your day! <3
