Last month I photographed Samantha and Joe’s wedding at Three Village Inn in Stony Brook, New York. Three Village Inn, located on Long Island’s North Shore in Suffolk County, is a charming 18th century inn overlooking the scenic Stony Brook Harbor. As a native Long Islander, I was excited to get back to my roots for this shoot!
I spent the first part of the day with Samantha and her family in one of the cottages behind the inn. Samantha was relaxed and calm as she got ready for her First Look with Joe. At the cottage, I was able to photograph all her details which ranged from a gorgeous pearl bracelet that belonged to her grandmother, to her beautiful engagement ring, to her sparkly shoes. I loved the rustic-chic belt that Samantha wore on her lacy dress, and was even more excited when she let me hang her dress outside for photos!
As soon as makeup was finished and Samantha was in her dress, we headed outside for their First Look. I always talk about how much I LOVE doing First Looks with my couples. Not only does it ease any nervousness they might be feeling, but it allows me to capture an important and emotional moment. These two certainly did not disappoint and I adored Joe’s reaction to glimpsed his beautiful bride-to-be for the first time on their wedding day.
Shortly after we finished couple photos, it was time for the ceremony, which was short, sweet, and full of happy tears and laughter. I love when couples personalize the ceremony, and so many of the things Joe and Samantha told their officiant about one another had me and their guests laughing!
Samantha and Joe clearly made an effort to personalize their wedding day, and I enjoyed photographing all of their one-of-a-kind touches, such as opting out of a cake cutting and serving delicious cupcakes instead. They also printed customized menus, drank from Mr and Mrs mason jars, and created chalkboard table numbers. My favorite unique gesture was the surprise message Samantha had their jeweler engrave inside Joe’s ring: “To the next 50 to 60 years.” It seemed to be Joe’s favorite gesture, too!
After the ceremony and cocktail hour finished, it was time to party! Samantha and Joe had a blast at their wedding and it’s obvious in every photo I took of them. Some of my favorite details of the reception were their favors – customized sauce, hot or mild! – and I loved the moment when Joe jumped on a percussion set and started playing drums for the guests. It was especially cute when Samantha joined him and tried playing as well!
I had a such a good time photographing Samantha and Joe! If you want to see more photos from this fun and unique wedding, scroll through to view more images from their special day!
