WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE NEWBORN SESSION >
June 5, 2025
Last weekend, I photographed Alexis and Matt’s May Wedding at Scotland Run Golf Club in Williamstown, NJ. Some of the most unforgettable wedding days don’t go exactly as planned — and that’s what makes them so special. One such day unfolded at the stunning Scotland Run Golf Club, where a picture-perfect beginning gave way to an unexpected rainstorm — and ultimately, one of the most romantic wedding stories I’ve captured.
The day began like something out of a dream. Alexis split her time between a local hotel and the venue and Matt was able to hang out in the golf simulator before the day began. With manicured grounds and elegant details, Scotland Run offered the perfect backdrop for their first look. We were able to use the grounds for most of their portrait session before the skies quickly went from clear blue and sun to a fast moving thunderstorm! We were able to pivot and moved family photos to the pavilion, this is another reason I love Scotland Run! The covered pavilion is so helpful in case of inclement weather. By the time the reception kicked off, the rain had slowed to a drizzle. That didn’t stop the bride and groom from sneaking outside for a few portraits — in love, and laughing beneath a shared umbrella. The moody sky made for some truly magical photos, and those quiet, unscripted moments ended up being some of my favorites. Back inside, the celebration was in full swing. Between heartfelt toasts, joyful dancing, and a few nods to the unpredictable weather, the newlyweds embraced every moment.
Alexis and Matt met on Hinge, Matt’s first message to her was “Me + you, Taco Tuesday.” And that Tuesday, he picked her up and they went to Gregory’s (home of the original Taco Tuesday) and the rest was history!
The proposal: “We were on our first vacation together in Puerto Rico. We hiked to the top of the highest mountain in the rainforest, and then we went to the waterfall. The bug waterfall was pretty crowded, so we found a small intimate waterfall. He set up a tripod and acted like we were taking photos together, but he was actually recording. Then he got down on one knee and popped the question!
This Scotland Run wedding reminded everyone that even the best-laid plans can shift — and that’s okay. What matters most is love, connection, and the ability to roll with the rain when it comes. In the end, it was a day full of laughter, resilience, and romance — and proof that sometimes, a little rain makes for the most beautiful memories.
Their advice for couples currently planning is to enjoy the process and don’t get so hung up on material things (decorations, invitations, etc.). This day is about you and your partner, and no one else. Make decisions based on things that you like, not what you think other people will like. And just remember, this is supposed to be the happiest day of your life!
Every part of our journey through life is sacred and passes by way too quickly. Susan elegantly captures the story of your legacy from the beginning with marriage and throughout motherhood with each special season it brings.
