Alyssa & Doug’s Scotland Run Wedding was one of the most fun, colorful and joyful wedding days I have photographed this year!
Alyssa and Doug met at work, but it took them a couple of years to begin a relationship and I am so happy they did because their day was magical! Their relationship was a great one to hear about – from working together, to surviving a nearly 2 year long distance relationship (she’s from the east coast, he is from the mid west) traveling the world and finally, getting engaged on a rainy day on Princeton University’s campus.
I finally met Doug and Alyssa last year and knew their wedding day would be filled with love based on their engagement session.
Bride prep began in a hotel not too far from their venue. Alyssa and her bridesmaids were finishing up hair and makeup when I arrived and I jumped right into shooting all their gorgeous details. I loved their colorful invitations and Alyssa’s love for using props, her scrabble letters were an adorable addition to the day! My favorite part of getting ready was their sweet cards to one another. They both wrote each other lengthy notes with memorable gifts. Hearing them read their words to one another was one of the sweetest parts of the day and there were a lot of those! Doug’s note from Alyssa had one of the most thoughtful gifts I have ever seen on the wedding day. Unfortunately, both Doug’s father and stepfather have passed away and she gave him cufflinks with “David” and “Jack” on them to memorialize each of his father’s on their day.
Once both parties were at the venue for their Scotland Run wedding, it was time for their first look. I loved watching Doug’s face as his bride walked up to him from behind. One of my favorite parts of the day was when Doug surprised Alyssa with colorful balloons for our photos! She had wanted to use them so badly for our engagement shoot, but we ended up not. These photos were some of my favorites ever, I am so glad we had this fun prop. Bridal party photos were such a fun part of the day for this group. Everyone was so excited and we were able to get so many great shots! I loved all the walking shots we were able to get with Scotland Run in the background.

I love Scotland Run’s outdoor ceremony space. It is covered, so it protects guests from rain and heat but still gives couples the opportunity to have an outdoor wedding even when the weather is not in your favor. Once these two stepped on the alter at their Scotland Run wedding, there was not a dry eye in the house! Like their cards to one another, their vows were sweet and heartfelt. These two are clearly in love and their ceremony was a joy to photograph.
Their Scotland Run wedding reception was one of the most fun of the year as well! After they were introduced as husband and wife, they had a romantic first dance and once that song was over, they broke out into a choreographed routine that surprised all their guests! Aside from the choreographed dance, my favorite moment of their reception was when we went outside for sparkler photos! I am so glad my adventurous couple was willing to sneak away for 5 minutes from their dance floor.
Thank you to Alyssa and Doug for allowing me to photograph your day!
